Leave of Absence and Return from the Leave (Reinstatement)
- Request period: Every February to April/Every August to October (More specified period will be noticed)
- Required documents: 1 copy of the leave of absence form
Procedure
- Obtain the leave of absence form for international students
1) Advising Professor, 2) Dean of the Department, 3) Director of the INU Library, and 4) Office of the International Affairs. - Submit the completed form to the Office of Educational Support (Building No.1).
- Check the status of confirmation through the portal system within 7 days of submission. If there is an any inquiry, students should contact the Office of Educational Support (032-835-9227).

- A leave of absence may be granted for a maximum of two consecutive semesters; however, students may return before the approved period.
(*Freshmen of the School of Urban Architecture, School of Bioengineering, School of Northeast Asian Studies are only allowed to leave for a year) - It takes 2 - 7 days to complete the request.
((Students must check the status at ‘Registration History’ (학적변동정보) of ‘Information on Personal Registration’ (개인학적조회) on the portal system).) - New incoming students may not take a leave of absence for the first semester (except for medical reasons).

Important considerations for visas after requesting a leave of absence
- When a student takes a leave of absence, their student visa will be disqualified instantly regardless of their expiration date on the alien registration card.
- Unless international students obtain special permission from the Immigration Office, students must depart the country within 14 days of the reporting date.
- If you remain in the country without taking any immigration action after requesting a leave of absence, you can be arrested for illegal overstay which could have serious consequences if you want to visit, study or work in Korea in the future.

- Application period: Late January to early February/Late June to early July (More specified period will be noticed)
- Required documents: None (Apply through the portal)
Procedures
- Login to the portal and access the integrated system (종합정보시스템).
- Go to the 'Registration Administration (학적관리)' and click 'Request for Reinstatement (복학신청)'. Then, click the 'Regular Reinstatement (일반복학)' and click 'Save (저장)'.
- ‘Must check if the status is changed from 'Nothing Requested' (신청내역없음) to 'Requested' (신청).
If the status is not changed, the student must contact the Computation Division (032-835-8888)
Important consideration for when applying for reinstatement
- It may take 2 or 3 days to complete the request.
- Note that students are supposed to be returned automatically after a year of leave. If students do not want to be returned, they should request an extension of the period.

Important consideration regarding student visa‘s after return
- International students should obtain a student visa again from a Korean Embassy before their entry (even if they finished the process of reinstatement).
- It takes at least a month to re-issue a certificate of acceptance and to obtain a student visa. For this reason, all international students planning to return must contact the Office of International Affairs (032-835-9584) at the same time once they apply for return from leave.
- You must be aware that it is not allowed to change your tourism visa into student visa from 2016. For this reason, international students must get their student visa before entry.
- If you violate the above information, you could face serious consequences (e.g. denied entry into the nation at the airport or denial to change your visa status at the Immigration Office).
